Tiffany Bossin

Tiffany Lough Bossin, daughter of Sharon Lough and Richard Lough, was born Feb. 21, 1976, in Spencer. While in Spencer she attended First Baptist where she accepted the Lord as her Savior. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1994. She attended University of Iowa and graduated in 1998, with a degree in psychology and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she was a nanny and received her master's degree in social work.

Tigers take 9th at IATC indoor meet

The Tiger boys track team was paced on Friday by strong finishes as the squad competed with strong statewide competition at the IATC 3A/4A State Indoor Championships Friday evening in Ames.
The Tiger squad of Reid Tigges, Campbell Wessels, Gavin Timmer and Keaton Stanzel took third in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 45.85, the top finish for the Tigers on the day.

Rotary donates to Literacy Partners

Everly Alumni Album Committee makes donations

Checks for $700 each were given to the Everly Fire Department and to the Everly Heritage Museum. Since 2010, the Everly Alumni Album has given a total of $3,600 in scholarships to nine Clay Central-Everly graduating seniors. These donations were all made possible by the sale of the Everly Alumni Album. VerDon Schmidt presented the donation check to Brian Kahl, Everly fire chief, and to the Everly Heritage Museum Steering Committee.

Ambassadors welcome Edge Boutique

The Spencer Chamber Ambassadors welcomed Edge Boutique to the Grand Avenue business district on Tuesday. The shop opened in Spencer on Dec. 1. Six years ago, owner Lynn Withers opened a store in Sioux Rapids, and chose Spencer to expand its operations. Today, the shop features a wide range of popular styles and ships products all over the country, along with welcoming in-store shoppers to its two locations. Minde Coleman manages the Spencer location.

Raina Strang

Funeral services for Raina Strang, 22, of Hartley, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly. Visitation with the family will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly. Strang died Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Spencer Hospital. The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Summit Carbon officials speak with county landowners

Several dozen Clay County landowners visited the Clay County Regional Events Center Tuesday evening to hear representatives from Summit Carbon Solutions speak on their proposed carbon capturing pipeline project. Chief Commercial Officer Jim Pirolli, Chief Operating Officer Jimmy Powell, and CEO of Summit Agricultural Group Bruce Rastetter answered questions and addressed landowners' concerns about the project.

Archery teams compete at state

The Spencer Archery teams headed down to the State Tournament in Des Moines this past weekend. The teams competed in bullseye 10/15 and 3D. This is the 15th year Spencer Archery has been to the State Tournament and competing in bullseye within the Nation Archery in Schools Program. The middle school team placed second. Middle schooler Lilly Harrington placed first, shooting a 292, Abbey Crew placed 10th, shooting a 281.

Tigersharks ready for state swim competition

The YMCA Tigershark swimmers will be competing in two state meets the next two weekends under Sandy Holck and Emily Sexton, Spencer YMCA swim team coaches. The Spencer YMCA Tigersharks Swim Team competed in the statewide YMCA State Swim Meet the weekend of March 5-6 at the Marshalltown YMCA. The Tigersharks will also be competing in the Greater Iowa Swim League State Meet in Des Moines on March 12.

Aaron James Sarchet

Aaron James Sarchet was born to Taylor and Kelsey Sarchet, of Graettinger, on March 2, 2022, at Spencer Hospital. The baby boy weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces at birth. Aaron is welcomed home by big sisters: Reagan and Raelyn; and big brothers: Mason and Jude.

Moore recognized as Legion of Honor member

Don Moore was recognized as a Kiwanis Legion of Honor member this morning for his more than 50-year commitment to serving his community. Moore is the first Spencer Daybreaker Kiwanian to reach that milestone in the club, which was chartered in 1966. Officials: 7 dead after tornadoes tore through central Iowa

WINTERSET (AP) ― Seven people were killed, including two children, when several tornadoes swept through central Iowa, destroying homes and knocking down trees and power lines in the state's deadliest storm in more than a decade, authorities said.

Marielle Grave Ithielle Tchamda

Marielle Grave Ithielle Tchamda was born to Christian and Teresa Tchamda, of Spencer, on Feb. 26, 2022, at Spencer Hospital. The baby girl weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces at birth. Grandparents are Claude and Tchamda, of Yadunde, Cameroon. Marielle was welcomed home big sisters: Lillyan, Sophia and Phoebe; and big brother, Carter.

Beau Daniel DeWall

Beau Daniel DeWall was born to Cody and Emily DeWall, of Pocahontas, on Feb. 23, 2022, at Spencer Hospital. The baby boy weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces at birth. Grandparents are: Roger and Darlene Hankey, of Emmetsburg; and Dan and Laurie DeWall, of Pocahontas. Beau is welcomed home by fluffy, four-legged sister, Miela Jo; and big brother, Hank.

Local Shrine Bowl participants recognized

The Iowa Shrine Bowl board of directors hosted one of two media nights Wednesday evening in Spencer. The event recognized participants from Spencer and other area schools who will be part of the 50th Anniversary Shrine Bowl football game this summer.
