What do I have to be thankful about in 2021?
Tuesday, November 23, 2021
It is almost Thanksgiving, and many may be saying aloud, or to themselves, "What do I have to be thankful about in 2021?" Depending on your point of view, plenty! There's the view that Thanksgiving Day is the start to a long weekend. It is always a Thursday, meaning you can watch the NFL starting at 10:30, with the Bears at the Lions. This goes with the view that Thanksgiving is all about the 3 F's: family, food and football. It's about a turkey and all the trimmings, visiting with the family, and napping on the sofa or in the recliner.
Going back to the time of Abraham Lincoln, as a grateful nation, we wanted to thank almighty God for our freedoms and our faith in his benevolence. Faith, family, friends and freedom were the points of emphasis. The NFL came much later. We can affirm the time-honored values and virtues any day of the year, and so we should. We would do well to develop a habit of showing gratitude! Whether with a meal of turkey and dressing, or more simple fare, it's what is in our mind and spirit, rather than what is in our collective bellies, that counts in the long run.
