Rebels Mentoring Program
Thursday, July 15, 2021
Sioux Central Community School District is excited to announce the introduction of our school-based Rebels Mentoring Program. We are currently looking for community members to fulfill the role as a mentor for the 2021-22 school year for our sixth to eighth graders. Mentoring can be the missing key for some young adults. At the most basic level, mentoring works because it guarantees a young adult additional support outside from their family, teachers or current support system.
Once a community mentor invests their time to help guide these young adults through their day to day challenges, these young adults will become more confident, have improved attendance, self-accountability, sense of purpose and the list goes on.
Mentors will be asked to fill out an application and attend a brief training prior to beginning their mentoring journey. We will match students with mentors based on common interests. Mentors are asked to commit to thirty minutes once a week during the months school is in session. During this meeting time mentors and mentees will spend time talking and having fun. This may include shooting hoops, playing board games or cards or doing an art or craft project. You will have continued support from our program coordinator to answer any questions or concerns throughout your time as a mentor.
If you are interested in becoming a Rebel mentor, referring a student to the program, supporting our program financially or having someone come and speak to you, your business or organization about the Rebel Mentoring Program, please contact me.
