Letter to the Editor

I would like to respond to the letter to the SDR Dec 5 edition from Alan Oppedal, Ruthven. He refers to the Trump administration as being like a rogue elephant and that his administration would be a disaster. According to Alan nothing has changed to change his mind. As is typical of many Democrats, he does not give Trump any credit for the booming economy, creation of record employment and too many other positive accomplishments to mention. I have always thought of being an independent voter, but according Alan I must be Republican because I support the strong economy Trump has created without any meaningful support from the Democrats.
He also wrote that we were in bad shape and the Obama administration managed to reduce the annual deficits by one half or more. This is only partly true as this only happened three times. Obama continued the deficit spending equal to or exceeding the of George Bush for five years. George Bush had to deal with two recessions and he dealt with the bailout of banks Alan also wrote that Trump has deficits of more than a trillion a year. If he has a second term and the deficits at the current level they will still be less than those of Obama.
Readers can check most of my comments at the Treasure Dept Historical Tables of deficit spending by all Presidents.
In closing, Alan wrote that he is concerned by the casual acceptance of Russian interference in the 2016 election and that it will in the upcoming 2020 election. He does not mention that in the 2016 election the Trump team was spied on by the Obama administration and that the interference was The FISA warrants that were brought and paid for by Democrat National Committee (Hillary). Stay alert for the IG report do out later this week.
Yes Alan, Trump actually did encourage interference in 2016, he quipped that maybe Russia could find Hillary's missing emails.
