Can an immigrant be a loyal American?
Sunday, November 3, 2019
It would seem to Trump and his allies this is not possible. Their latest immigrant attack was against Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a decorated, Purple Heart awarded war hero. Born in Kiev, then part of the Soviet Union, whose Jewish family was forced to flee and relocate in America when he was three years old.
Vindman, now the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council reportedly told House impeachment investigators that the transcript released by the White House of a call between Trump and Ukraine’s president was edited to exclude references to Joe Biden and the Ukrainian gas company. A clear attempt to coerce Ukraine to find dirt on his political opponent and withholding $400 million in aid to force the action. He was in the room when the call was made. On two separate occasions, he advised his Trump’s White House lawyers of the editing, but they took no action.
Republican operatives then resorted to their age old smear tactic by questioning the loyalty of the witness. One statement “We have a U.S. national security official who is advising Ukraine while working inside the White House, apparently against the president’s interest.”
Vindman’s loyalty has been tested and proven. His testimony will add to the case for impeachment.
