New drive-thru coffee option now available in Fareway parking lot

Scooter's Coffee is off and running to a better-than-expected start here in Spencer according to owner of the new Spencer franchise location in the Fareway parking lot. Following the city's initial approval of preliminary plans for the drive-thru kiosk in May 2018, the location opened late last week.

"The girls hear on Facebook and they have seen a great response on Facebook," Scooter's Coffee manager Renee O'Hara said. "We have seen a lot of repeat customers already which is a good. After school and during the morning commute are really busy. A lot of people said they were excited to hear that we were coming to town and then they were watching the building go up, waiting. We have heard, 'Finally, you're open.'"

Scooter's Coffee barista Haley Bendlin uses a headset to listen to an incoming order.

"The feedback we have gotten is that people have enjoyed what they have gotten," Scooter's Coffee Spencer franchise co-owner Josh Morris said. "We want to make sure we hold ourselves to that standard, that the drink that goes out the window is perfect. So far, we have had really good feedback from people who have tried our product."

While visiting his cabin on East Lake Okoboji for almost a decade, Morris saw an opportunity to bring an additional coffee option to northwest Iowa. The Omaha, Nebraska native teamed with Spencer native, Robb Steffes, combining their knowledge of the area with a familiarity of the Omaha-based coffee company. Morris stressed a belief in the product he first encountered as a customer.

"Consumers have choices, so I think when you combine the really great product with really high speed of service that gives us an advantage," Morris said. "I love Scooter's product and our goal is to get the product out in 90 seconds to you with really good customer care. We have about anything. You can pair food. We have smoothies and great coffee. You put all those ingredients together and it has been successful for Scooter's so far."

The Spencer Scooter's represents Morris and Steffes' first franchise location. The two are planning an additional location in Spirit Lake. Morris said he and his partner hope to follow the company's growth model and pursue further expansion possibilities as they become available.
