Colin You Out
Sunday, July 22, 2018
I cringe every single time I read Colin Van Westen on the opinion page because I know every word comes from a "dyed in the wool" liberal with little regard for the truth and, even more importantly, zero knowledge of history! I have resisted responding in the past, but — in the immortal words of the news anchor in the movie “Network” — "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!"
The contentiousness of supreme court nominees did NOT start in 2016 when the Republican senate judiciary chairman (Chuck Grassley) refused to hold hearings for Merrick Garland — Obama's nominee to replace Antonin Scalia who died unexpectedly. This started back in the Reagan administration when the infamous (think Chappaquiddick) "liberal lion" of the senate, Teddy Kennedy, single-handedly conducted the most vicious personal attack in history telling the world Robert Bork would return us to segregation and ultimately slavery!
The truth is Garland's nomination would have NEVER been confirmed by a Republican Senate based on the "Biden Rule" (don't hold hearings in a presidential election year), and Senator Grassley didn't hold committee hearings knowing it was a waste of time. This was NOT "an ugly episode in American history. ..."
If Merrick Garland is a moderate, according to VanWesten, then Attila The Hun, Genghis Khan and Hitler also qualify! His definition of moderate allows killing of babies in the womb and anyone whether LGBTXIA+ or something else can marry anyone they choose!
Forgive me Colin, but I yearn for the "good old days" when killing babies was murder and marriage was one man and one woman. The scary thing (to you liberals) is the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh will, hopefully, bring the "good old days" back to America!
