Area coffee connoisseurs will have a new option for their coffee needs in Spencer. Scooter’s Coffee drive-thru kiosks are expected to open at two northwest Iowa locations, one of which is Spencer. The coffee business is being brought to the area by franchisees Robb Steffes, a Spencer native; and Joshua Morris.

Although subject to change, current preliminary site plans for the Spencer location of Scooter’s Coffee places the drive-thru kiosk at the westernmost part of Fareway’s parking lot, adjacent to State Bank and Eighth Street.

The building’s area is approximately 500 square feet, and before the building can be constructed, the business will need a building permit granted by Spencer Planning Director Kirby Schmidt.

“They would have to stake it out and give me numbers,” Schmidt said. “Who’s doing it, how much it’s going to cost, names of contractors.”

Schmidt said the business may also require an electrical permit and plumbing permit before the facility could be completed.
