Cross fitters climb in memory

Saturday morning, members of Driven712 joined cross fit coaches in a 9/11 stair climb memorial in the bleachers at Dale Norton Field. Laker volleyball sweep 4 at Anoka-Ramsey

COON RAPIDS — The Iowa Lakes Lakers traveled to Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and swept their four matches on Friday and Saturday. Iowa Lakes opened on Friday with a 3-1 win over Riverland CC (25-10, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22). In the night cap they defeated Ridgewater CC 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16.

Lakers men take 2 of 3

The Lakers went on the road over the weekend, playing Scott Community College on Saturday and Southeastern on Sunday. The Lakers scored 12 goals against Scott while conceding only one.

Late night thriller

MASON CITY — A late start and weather delays couldn’t stymie the offensive output in Friday’s matchup between Spencer and Mason City. In the end, the Tigers ground control offense outlasted the host Riverhawks high octane aerial assault, allowing Spencer to claim the 37-29 win to even its early season mark at 1-1. Spencer’s power back Adrian Carrillo and quarterback Riley DeWitt both topped the century rushing mark and each scored a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Tigers fall to Riverhawks in Mason City

MASON CITY — The girls swimming team traveled a far way on Thursday, riding to Mason City to face the Riverhawks in the pool. The teams competed in 22 events against Mason City, the girls would lose the competition 61-37.

Iowa Lakes softball announces camp dates

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes softball program is pleased to announce its 2022-23 softball camp schedule. This year's schedule includes a softball academy, a youth camp and an elite camp with opportunities for athletes in kindergarten through 12th grade. The softball academy is a four-week academy held on Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23, and Nov. 6 and 13.

Tigers go 1-5 at SCC Early Bird Tourney

LAKE CITY — The Spencer Tigers volleyball team had their work cut out for them on Saturday, expecting to play six games against different schools. The girls would play Audubon, South Central Calhoun, Manson Northwest Webster, Perry, South Hamilton and Pocahontas Area. The team would struggle only defeating the Perry Jayettes during the tournament.

Rebels remain winless with loss to Bulldogs

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Sioux Central Rebels remain winless in their start to the volleyball season. They were unsuccessful in their effort, dropping three straight sets to the Algona Bulldogs, and dropping to 0-4 on the season. Algona would win the first set 25-22, the second set 25-13 and the third and final set 25-17.

Rebels manhandle Cougars 42-13 for 1st victory

MANSON — After getting blown out in their first game against South O’Brien, the Sioux Central Rebels wanted to turn the tide and forget about that first contest. The Rebels got started in their first drive, marching the ball down the field with their quick and uptempo offense. Manson Northwest Webster didn’t have an answer for it all night long. Quarterback Ethan Mills ran the first touchdown in for the Rebels, they would convert the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.

Rebels place 4th at Okoboji Invitational

OKOBOJI — Sioux Central traveled north to Emerald Hills Golf Course on Thursday to compete in the Okoboji Invitational. It was a chance to compete against 10 other schools and see how the Rebels stack up with the rest of the competition.

The Sioux Central boys would finish in fourth place as a team with a score of 121. Falling to Okoboji, Sioux Center and Sibley-Ocheyedan.

Pioneers persist in injury-plagued loss to Generals

OKOBOJI — Okoboji hung with Siouxland Conference rival Sibley-Ocheyedan for three quarters Friday night, but the injury-plagued Pioneers were left undermanned in a 15-6 loss to the Generals in the football home opener in Milford.

Spencer lost their opening matchup of the 2022 season 27-16 to Spirit Lake, but it’s only the first game, and there’s plenty of season remaining to turn it around. The Tigers will travel more than two hours Friday night to face the River Hawks.

Girls drop all 3 matches at Dutch Invite

ORANGE CITY — On Tuesday the Spencer volleyball girls traveled to MOC-Floyd Valley high school for the annual Dutch Invite, the girls had three contests and lost all three of them.

First up was MOC-Floyd Valley, the girls lost a close first set 21-19, before dropping the second one 21-11. Jada Piercy would lead the girls in assists, with 11. Jerra Merchant recorded 2.5 kills and one block, and eight digs to lead the team.

Girls grab 2nd place finish in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY — The girls swim team traveled down to Sioux City on Tuesday for the Sioux City Pentathalon against Council Bluffs and Sioux City Metro. The girls would finish second in team scoring losing to Sioux City Metro. Brooklyn Ferguson finished the best in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in fourth place with a time of 26.40. Mya Miller wasn’t far behind finishing in sixth place with a time of 26.96. Emily Quanbeck would finish in ninth place with a time of 27.34.
