Rodney Arlo Gritten passed away at the age of 75 on Jan. 12, 2024, in Gold Canyon, Arizona. The place he called HOME was Spencer, Iowa, at 5:13 Bar.

He was born in Spencer on Feb. 29, 1948 (a leap year baby). He graduated in 1966 from Clay Central High School in Royal. Then attended for one year Minneapolis Art School of Fine Arts. The following two decades Rodney embarked on an adventurous journey. First in California, then into Winter Park, Grandby and Frazer, Colorado, building estate homes in the Rocky Mountains. Rodney was a gifted artist that he turned into a trade with pottery, wood crafting, painting with oils, charcoal drawings. He also spent time in Spokane, Washington, and living on a sail boat in the Virgin Islands.

Rodney was proceeded in death by his parents, Arlo and Lois Gritten, and his sister, Bonnie Trosin.

He is survived by a brother in law, Larry Trosin, and sisters, Terri Ward, Pam Sheridan and Donna Harmon (his Irish twin).

His stories, wisdom, humor and the warmth of his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A “celebration of life” will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. at 513 Grand Ave. in Spencer, his favorite place. Hosts: Kay Tielbur Meyer, Dale Meyer, Pam and Larry Trosin. No funeral service will be held.
