Funeral services for Melvin “Mel” Duane Cornwell, 83, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Rev. Donna Gray will officiate the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Glen Pedersen Post 1 and VFW Clay County Post 3159 of Spencer. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Funeral services for Stanley “Rod” Rodney Thomsen, 92, of Everly, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Hope Lutheran Church, of Everly. Rev. Dan Taylor will officiate. Visitation will take place beginning at 2 p.m., Sunday, with family present from 2-4 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Everly. Military services will be conducted at American Legion Everett Boyles Jr. Post 414, of Everly. Interment will be conducted at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.

Funeral services for Bernice Anna (Meyer) Back, 91, of Galesville, Wisconsin, formally of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Renae Behrends will officiate the service. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.

Funeral services for Bryan David Steven, 72, of Spencer, will be conducted from 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be at a later date. Steven passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at his residence.

On Jan. 2, 2023, Mary L. McBreen Newton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend to many, passed away at the age of 99.

Keith Calvin Klatt, 95, was born on Aug. 4, 1927, to Emil and Etta (Steffen) Klatt along with his twin brother, Kenneth. He attended country school near Royal, graduated from Rossie High School in 1945, and soon after joined the Navy where he and Kenneth served together during World War II. He was united in marriage to Crystal Dickeson in July 1949, and they became parents to three children: James, Timothy, Benita.

Miriam Ruth Bergen, 103, of Primghar and Spencer, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sioux City.

Miriam was born in Chicago on Jan. 9, 1919, to Max and May (Leese) Liebermann. She graduated from Sullivan High School and attended Northwestern University.

Karolyn Sue “Kari” Vander Woude, daughter of James “Jim” and Mary (McPherson) Jeppesen, was born in Sibley on May 3, 1965. She spent her youth in Sanborn, where she attended Sanborn Community School, graduating with the class of 1983.

Following graduation, Kari continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, with an emphasis on criminal justice.

Funeral services were conducted for George Joseph Sperry, 94, on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. David Kendall-Sperry will officiate the service. Masonic services were conducted by Evening Shade Lodge No. 312 A.F. & A.M. and military services were led by American Legion — Glen Pedersen Post 1 and VFW Clay County Post 3159. Interment was conducted at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Following the services at the graveside there will be a lunch served at the church

Beth Odor will officiate the service. Visitation will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5-7 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will be at a later date in Michigan City, Indiana. Long passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at Spencer Hospital.

Arliss Kaye Fox, 78, of Cresco, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, at her home in Cresco, surrounded by family.

Services for Arliss will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco with Rev. John Elkin officiating. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. for one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at 11 a.m.
