Gladys Zweifel

Funeral services for Gladys Darlene Pelley Zweifel, 107, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Spencer and Linn Grove, will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Pastor Perry DeGroot will officiate the service. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be Barns Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Zweifel passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Keelson Harbor in Spirit Lake.

Margaret Skelton Green

Margaret “Marty” SkeltonGreen, born on Sept. 4, 1944, in Spencer, passed away at her home in Kalispell, Montana, accompanied by her husband on Feb. 28, 2025.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. at First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial was in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon.

Norma Jean Whalen

Funeral services for Norma Jean Whalen, 84, of Spencer, will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at Warner Chapel in Everly. Pastor Nicholas Hanges will officiate the service. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 14, at the funeral home in Everly. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Whalen passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Rachel Marie Walvoord

Funeral services for Rachel Marie Walvoord, 49, of Spencer, will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at Warner Funeral Home of Everly. Pastor Mark Wilms will officiate the service. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Miss Walvoord passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Thomas William Moermond

Thomas William Moermond was born on July 12, 1941, in Spencer, to M. William ("Doc") Moermond and Berdeva H. Wehler Moermond. There to welcome Tom home was brother, Ronald. Tom graduated from Everly High School in May 1959. He attended the University of South Dakota from 1959-61. Tom was a member of the Air Guard from 1961-68 and then transferred to the Air Force from 1968-69. Tom’s career took him from data processing to becoming a police officer.

Norlyn Vande Brake

Norlyn Vande Brake, 84, of Okoboji, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at his home in Tucson, Arizona, with his family by his side.

Robert Leroy Heintz

Services for Robert “Bob” Leroy Heintz, 82, of Spencer, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Spencer. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate the service. Visitation will one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. He passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at Spencer Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Bob’s name.

Mary Jane Eischeid

Funeral services for Mary Jane Eischeid, 100, of Spencer, will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Spencer. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at North Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at St. Luke Nursing Home, in Spencer.

Lynda Sue Cornwell

Lynda Sue Cornwell, 52, was born on June 29, 1972, to Melvin and Karen (West) Cornwell in Spencer. She grew up on the family farm, where she developed a love for music and was actively involved in 4-H. She also kept very busy with basketball, volleyball, pom, speech, NHS and so many other activities. Lynda graduated from South Clay High School in 1990 and later continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning her degree in 2002.

Allan Arthur Johnson

Allan Arthur Johnson, 88, of Spencer, formerly of Northwood, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer. Allan was born to Arthur and Mary Johnson on Aug. 17, 1936, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He spent his entire childhood on a farm east of Northwood and was baptized, confirmed, and married at Deer Creek Lutheran Church. Allan attended Deer Creek No. 3 through eighth grade and then Northwood High School, where he graduated with the class of 1954.

Services for Betty Ludwig, 77, of Sioux Rapids, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Foundation Church, in Spencer. Pastor Michael Hanges will officiate the service. Visitation with the family will be from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Interment will be at Laurens Cemetery in Laurens. Ludwig passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his son’s residence in Spencer. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.

Fabian Jean Buckley

Fabian Jean Buckley passed away on Feb. 6, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona.

Known to his friends and family as Jean, he is survived by his partner, Jeanette Raveling; children, Dave (Beth), Ken (Michele), Katie (Tony); grandchildren, Makayla, Aidan, Gavin, Chloe; and siblings, Ted (Lyn), Pat.

He is preceded in death by parents Anne and John (Ruth), and siblings Gerry (Bill), Shirl (Al), Mary (Art), John (Dottie), Mike (Shirley), Jim (Sarah), Darrell (Linda).

Gary Lee Biederman

The fish of northwest Iowa collectively breathed a sigh of relief as Gary Lee Biederman, 72, of Everly, formerly of Mitchell County, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, in Iowa City, after an extended battle with systemic scleroderma.

Richard Lee Holmberg

Richard Lee Holmberg, 72, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Jan. 7, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. Richard was born on Dec. 31, 1952, in Spencer, to Dean and Sylvia Holmberg. He graduated from Spencer Community Schools in 1971.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; his first wife, Patricia (Lamb) Holmberg; a grandson, Justin Huberg; and a great-grandson, Braden Huberg.

David Donaldson

David Wayne Donaldson, 71, was born on Aug. 16, 1953, in Spencer, to proud parents Darrel and Beverly (Woodford) Donaldson. He grew up on his parents' farm east of Webb. He attended Garfield Webb Elementary and graduated from South Clay in 1971. He continued his education at Northwestern College in Orange City and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. His first job was as director of Crest Group Home in Des Moines.

Andrew ‘Andy’ Hansen

Andrew L. “Andy” Hansen, 80, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, in The Gables of Westerville, Ohio.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1944, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of the late Andrew and Winifred Charlotte (Anderson) Hansen.

On Oct. 24, 1964, he married Sharon Ann “Sherry” Hynes, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2024. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Hansen; several nephews; brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.
