Funeral Notice: Dean Ricker

Funeral services for Dean Ricker, 96, of Spirit Lake, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at First Congregational Church in Peterson. Rev. Michael Hyde will officiate the service. Visitation will be Saturday, with family present to receive friends from 4-6 p.m., at the Warner Funeral home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson. Ricker passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at his residence. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Knight

Charles W. Knight, 84, of Danville, Pennsylvania, died on Oct. 21, 2023, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after suffering a stroke. He was born on the family farm in rural Jonesboro, Indiana, on July 5, 1939, a son of the late Thurlow Bennett Knight II and Cora (Marvin) Knight.

Karen Jackson

Funeral services for Karen Louise Jackson, 85, of Dickens, will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at Grace United Methodist Church, in Spencer.

Burial will be conducted at 9:30 a.m., Friday prior to the service at Fairview Cemetery in Langdon

She passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Keelson Harbor in Spirit Lake.

Erma Jean (Jarnagan) Heinrichs

Erma Jean “Jean” (Jarnagan) Heinrichs, daughter of William Fred and Flossie (Shearer) Jarnagan, was born April 16, 1927, in Ames. She spent her childhood years in Kearney, Nebraska graduating from high school in 1945.

Donald Tillis

Funeral services for Donald Dean Tillis, 92, of Spencer, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Paul Kaldahl will officiate the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia. He passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at Spencer Hospital.

Steven Kunert

Steven Robert Kunert, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, due to heart failure. A private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer at a later date.

Michael Eaton

Michael Scott Eaton, 61, a resident of Little Canada, passed away on Oct. 10, 2023. Affectionately known as "Mike" to those who knew him best, he leaves a legacy of cherished memories.

Mike is survived by his son, Travis, and his siblings, Sheryl, Tammy and Anthony. Mike was especially close to his dear grandmother, Edith, who preceded him in death along with his parents, Karen and Joel.

Lucile ‘Lucy’ Steffen

Private memorial services for Lucile May “Lucy” Steffen, 94, of Spencer, will be conducted at a later date. Memorial visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 21, 2023, at First Congregational Church, in Spencer, from 3-4:30 p.m. Rev. Sharon Britz will officiate the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Lucy passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Northshire Residence in Spencer.

Teresa 'Terri’ Kopel

Funeral services for Teresa “Terri” Kopel, 91, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Spencer. Visitation will be open after 5 p.m., Friday, with family present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Kopel passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer after a brief illness.

Barbara Cuttell

Memorial services for Barbara Jean Means Cuttell, 81, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at Rivers Edge Methodist Church in Spencer. Visitation will be conducted at 10 a.m. at the church. Rev. Tim Frasher will officiate the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Following the graveside service, there will be a lunch at the church.

Carolina Reinert

Carolina B. Reinert, 89, of Spencer, formerly Marcus, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospital surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Father Timothy Pick will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery, in Marcus. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gary Wolthuis

Gary William Wolthuis, 83, of Spencer, passed away on Sept. 27, 2023. Gary was the oldest of three children, born to Gerhard and Bernice Wolthuis.

He grew up on a farm and attended country school until fourth grade. He went on to finish his education in Spencer. Graduating in 1958.

He was baptized, confirmed and was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer until retiring to Casa Grande, Arizona.

Estel Fairchild

Funeral services for Estel Glen Fairchild, 94, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at Warner Chapel, in Spencer. Visitation with family present to receive friends will be conducted from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Terril. Fairchild passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer.

Edwin Bayne

A celebration of life for Edwin L. Bayne, 95, will be conducted at a date and time yet to be determined at the United Methodist Church in Wapello.

He died Sept. 27, 2023, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer. Born Oct. 5, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, Ed was the son of William Leroy and Grace Bayne. On July 23, 1970, he married Mary Louise Morrison Wilkerson in Washington, Iowa.

A 1945 graduate of Oakville High School, Ed graduated from Wesleyan College in 1975.
