A come-and-go Celebration of Life for Darin Freeman, 57, of Spencer, Iowa, will be conducted from 4-6 p.m., at Occasions Center,104 E. 4th St., in Spencer. Burial will be at a later date. Freeman passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his home in Spencer.

 Darin McKinley Freeman, the son of Jackie “Jack” and Inez (Meyer) Freeman was born July 22, 1966 in Shelbyville, IN. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee, IA.
     Darin worked at Danny’s Steakhouse and the Packing Plant in Cherokee. He married Eve on December 30, 1991 in Cherokee, IA. They moved to Spencer, IA in 1996 where they owned and operated Freeman’s Buffet and Darin worked at Slumberland. They also ran Stubbs Kitchen at the fairgrounds during the Clay County Fair for years.
     Darin enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing pool. He really enjoyed helping people through his job at Slumberland. He was also proud of helping Spencer community non-profit organizations and hosting Rock-the-River fundraiser at his home.
     Darin passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his home, at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Kevin.
      Left to cherish his memory are Eve of Okoboji, IA; 3 sons, Trever (Sarah) of George, IA, Derek of Des Moines, IA and Blake of Spencer, IA; 3 grandchildren, Dylan, Sylas, and Dax; one brother, Jeff of Cherokee, IA; one sister, Jackie of Mankato, MN; other relatives; many friends; and the McDermott clan of Anthon, IA
     Darin loved working with people of the community through Slumberland and will be remembered for his remarks of “Suck it up buttercup” and Let’er rip tater-chip.”
