John Hurst

John Daniel Hurst, 47, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on May 6, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Spencer on June 8, 1976, to Philip and Cheryl (Beck) Hurst.

John grew up in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School, Class of 1994. After high school graduation John received an appointment to West Point United States Military Academy, graduating with the Class of 1998. At West Point John made many life long friends. Upon graduation from West Point, John was commissioned into the United States Army. After his military service, John attended MacCombs School of Business and then the University of Texas, receiving a master's degree in business. John worked as a data analysis manager at JPMorgan Chase from 2014 to present.

In 2012, John married Regina Giardino. To this marriage a daughter was born, Hazel Grace. John was an exceptional dad and would do anything for his daughter Hazel. He really enjoyed making Hazel laugh by doing things that were outlandishly goofy. John also had a dog, Annie, who was very special to him.

John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved to swim, go on adventures and do anything that would bring a smile to peoples faces or make them laugh. John enjoyed many adventures over the years including ski trips, road trips and visiting many cities and countries. He also enjoyed spending time boating, playing and talking about sports. John would always say or do something that would lead to a memorable experience for everyone.

John and his sister, Sara, had a very special bond that will never be broken.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Helen Hurst, and Rudolph (Rudy) and Lois Beck; parents, Philip and Cheryl Hurst; aunts, Marcia Wiley and Joyce Muckey; uncles, Randy Beck and Byron Bryant; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Regina; daughter, Hazel, of San Antonio; sister, Sara (Dave) Schmidt, of Spencer; and two nephews, Samuel and Kael.

There will be a celebration of life for John on June 16, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. at Oneota Park in Spencer.
