Brashear named ILCC interim golf coach

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes Community College athletics program welcomes Jack Brashear as he steps up to lead the Lakers golf team. Brashear will be the interim head men’s and women’s golf coach for the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to have Jack as our interim head men’s and women’s golf coach,” athletic director Troy Larson said. “Having played at Iowa Lakes, Jack understands Iowa Lakes and junior college golf.

Seniors ball out: Tigers thump Dodgers on Senior Night

SPENCER — In came the Fort Dodge Dodgers to Dale Norton Field on Friday for the Spencer senior night. The Tigers showed up ready to go to battle their district foe and defend their home turf. Spencer would annihilate the Dodgers in all facets of the game, giving them their fifth straight win to improve to 5-1 on the season. Led by Adrian Carrillo and Riley DeWitt who each had three rushing touchdowns in the big win.

Tigers lose to Braves on Senior Night

SPENCER — It was senior night on Thursday when the Spencer Tigers hosted the Lakes Conference foe in Cherokee-Washington. The Braves came in with the chance to clinch the Lakes if they got the win. Spencer started out slow in the opening set, falling down 5-0 in a hurry. The girls would bounce back to even the score at 10 a piece, it got to be a 14-14 game before the Braves started to pull ahead, Spencer would lose the first set 25-19.

Tigers compete at Waverly over the weekend

WAVERLY — On Saturday, the Spencer boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Waverly to compete in the Wartburg Steve Johnson Invitational. This was a huge competition with a lot of schools and athletes involved. For the girls it was a 14th place team finish out of 22 teams on Saturday, with a team score of 372. Dubuque Hempstead took first place with a score of 83.

Rebels lose heartbreaker in 5 sets

LAKE VIEW — As their regular season begins its final stages the Sioux Central Rebels traveled to East Sac County High School to face off against the Raiders Thursday night. In an all out back and forth match the Raiders would end up defeating Sioux Central 3-2 in five sets.

E-Hawks roll Rebels on Friday

EMMETSBURG — Sioux Central traveled to neighboring Emmetsburg on Friday night in hopes to pick up their first district win of the 2022 season. The E-Hawks are battling for a top spot in the 1A-1 district this year.

Rebel boys win both meets on the week

The Sioux Central boys and girls cross-country teams traveled to Paullina on Thursday night to compete in the Wolverine Cross-Country Invitational hosted by South O’Brien schools.

The Rebel boys took first place once again for the third straight time in their meets, they had a combined team score of just 59. 30 less than the second place finishing team in MMCRU.

Lakers continue run with sweep at DMACC

DES MOINES — The Iowa Lakes volleyball team traveled to DMACC to compete in A tournament for one day. In the first match the Lakers defeated ICCAC foe NIACC 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-17) in the night cap the Lakers beat John Wood Community College out of Illinois 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20).

Tigers dominate 1st home meet at Spencer YMCA

SPENCER — For the first time all season, the Spencer girls swimming team got to host a meet at the local Spencer YMCA on Tuesday. Visiting Carroll and Atlantic were the only teams apart of the competition. The Tigers would pull out the win in the double dual, defeating Carroll 59-35, and dominating Atlantic 78-9, Carroll would win their dual over the Atlantic Trojans 72-12.

Tigers defeat Tornadoes on Tuesday

STORM LAKE — Spencer traveled south down Highway 71 on Tuesday to begin the final week of their regular season. The Tornadoes have been struggling all season sitting at a 3-16 record, Spencer came in with a 6-19 record. It was a thrilling five-game match, Spencer took the first set 25-18, before Storm Lake bounced back and won 25-21.

Girls take 2nd at Algona on Monday

ALGONA — Spencer traveled east on Monday to compete against runners from 20 other schools, not every team had enough to fill out a team, but there were still participants from those schools. Clear Lake, Okoboji, Spirit Lake, Estherville Lincoln-Central, Emmetsburg and Fort Dodge to name a few.

Rebels drop match to Emmetsburg

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Rebels hosted neighboring rival Emmetsburg on Tuesday night for a showdown with the E-Hawks. It was a Twin Lakes conference matchup near the end of the season. Sioux Central unfortunately wouldn’t fare well losing in three straight matches and falling to 3-9 on the season. 19 errors were a big reason why the Rebels fell short of the win.

Rebel boys take 1st at Alta-Aurelia

ALTA — The Sioux Central Rebels cross-country team fared pretty well on Monday night when they traveled to Alta Golf and Country Club to compete against several other teams. For the boys it was a first place finish on the night, for the girls it was still a top five finish, placing fifth in the competition.

Lakers sweep at Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH, Minn. — The Iowa Lakes Lakers volleyball squad traveled to Iowa Falls on Wednesday night and swept Ellsworth. In what should prove to be a Region 11 playoff position clinching win, Iowa Lakes swept the Panthers 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-22). The Lakers are now 3-2 in the ICCAC and 13-16 overall.

Coach Mike Turnbull was relieved to pick up the win.

ILCC men defeat Iowa Central, 1-0

Iowa Lakes hosted Iowa Central Wednesday, defeating the Tritons 1-0. It was a lone goal from freshman defender Matheus Loreto (above) giving the Lakers the victory. Loreto got on the end of a cross from Lewis Duncan and headed it home. Iowa Lakes is not 2-1 in conference play at 9-2 on the season.
