Florence May Smoot

Florence May Smoot was born in Royal on March 11, 1956, and left this world on Sept. 18, 2024. She brought her sharp wit, warm heart and love of a good story everywhere she went — from her early days in Iowa, to her years in Alaska, and finally to Texas, where she spent her later years.
Florence was an accountant by trade, retiring in 2016 after a long career of keeping things balanced — both on the books and in life. She was quick with a joke, never turned down a good glass of whiskey, and always had a story to tell. Her laughter and honesty made her the kind of person people instantly trusted and loved.
She is survived by her children, Emily Smoot Lombard and Benjamin Smoot Lombard, who carry her strength, humor and stories forward.
A burial will be held at 11 a.m. at Rush Lake Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. at The Great Hall in Royal on May 31. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories and eat sandwiches in her honor. Please RSVP to lombard.emily@gmail.com so we know how many sandwiches to bring.
