I couldn't decide. There was a variety of colors to choose from: brown, white, black or turquoise in either desk type, princess or wall. I also had my choice of rotary or push button. But Sernett's Department Store, located at 101 East 7th Street carried more than just landline phones. It was similar to KMart and Shopco. What items couldn't be found in the above stores, could be found at Shoppers Supply, Coast to Coast or Gambles. I barely remember Gambles at 18 West 4 Street. They carried Coronado appliances, furniture and hardware. And who can forget the popular Montgomery Wards located at the intersection of First Avenue East and East Fifth Street, southeast corner.
These businesses were prosperous in their era. I can clearly see them in my aged (not too aged, though) mind now. I remember the purchase of my first vacuum at Coast to Coast, KMart's blue light specials and, of course, my phone from Sernett's. Perhaps my readers have some memories they'd like to share. Ahh, those precious memories of days gone by.
