The case for impeachment
A majority of Americans now say they favor action to impeach President Trump.
Though there are many actions by Trump that qualify for action against him, the latest and most serious is his request of a favor of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate his leading presidential opponent and offering the help of Rudy Giuliani and Attorney General Barr. While Trump claims it is not a crime to ask a foreign power to aid his campaign for reelection, Congress disagrees. This falls into the category “high crimes or misdemeanors” and has initiated impeachment action.
If impeachment is approved by the House of Representatives, the impeachment trial takes place in the Senate. The big question is — how will the Republican majority, led by Mitch McConnell view the facts. Will it be country over party or visa versa?
