Shades of 1930s Germany

Monday, August 12, 2019

In a recent oval office interview with Breitbart News, Trump said in a warning to Democratic Party members “My base is full of tough people who will only use their toughness when provoked to a certain point.” He further stated. “I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military and the support of the Bikers for Trump. I have tough people, but they don’t play it tough until they get to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.”

Journalist Judd Legum commented, “We can’t sugar coat this. The president of the United States is encouraging the military, police and bikers to violently attack his critics on the left.” Also remember last December Trump said “He was positive his base would revolt if Congress tried to impeach him. Further testimony from Michael Cohen said Donald Trump would never allow for a peaceful transition of power should he lose the 2020 election.

Not many people are old enough to remember the actions Adolph Hitler took in prewar Germany, but history books tell the story of how Hitler bullied his way to power by eliminating his political foes. Even Hitler’s hatred of Jews and Gypsies is mimicked by Trump’s attacks on people of color. It is frightening to see how the actions and statements of a president of the United States threatens the survival of our constitutional Democracy.
