Sioux Central grinds past Warriors
SIOUX RAPIDS — Points were tough to come by until the fourth quarter for either team Tuesday night as Alta-Aurelia slowed the game down against Sioux Central, but the Rebels got it going in the fourth to pull away for a 47-36 victory.
“Lots of credit to Alta-Aurelia,” Rebel boys basketball coach Stephen Tjaden said. “They really controlled the tempo tonight and had us out of sync. We missed on some opportunities when we had a chance to extend the lead early. We finally put a run together late to get separation and made some key defensive stops to close it out. This was a game definitely not our style but you have to find ways to win these games, and we did.”
Sioux Central led just 5-4 after the first and the two teams headed to the locker rooms tied at 12-12.
The Rebels slipped in front 21-19 by the end of the third and took control with a 26-17 performance in the fourth to seal the 47-36 win.
Hunter Decker led Sioux Central with 11 points. Prestan Samson added 10 points and five boards.
The Rebels are now 3-0 overall this year and 2-0 against teams in the Twin Lakes Conference. They’ll continue conference action Friday in Manson against the currently winless Manson Northwest Webster Cougars.
