A festive hustle and bustle could be felt along Grand Avenue Monday as families and community members enjoyed an assortment of treats, carolers' voices warmed the chilly evening air and Santa arrived just after 6 p.m. to light the Jaycee's Tree of Joy as part of the 2018 Grand Meander. The annual event started the countdown for the Spencer community leading up to Christmas Day.
Crowds gathered and greeted Santa with high-fives and hugs in front of the Spencer Police Station.
The Spencer Family YMCA 4- to 6-year-old Hippity Hop dance class impressed an audience with their moves at H&N Chevrolet.
Members of the Spencer High School choir wore their holiday spirit as they sang "Silent Night" at Arts on Grand.
Spencer High School FFA member Ty Scholerman brought Bubbles the sheep to meet 8-year-old Gemma Tamisiea and her brother, 6-year-old Brooks.
The night concluded at the Spencer Area Activities Center as 24 musicians shared their passion for brass instruments and winter wonder as TubaChristmas celebrated its 45th anniversary nationally.
