EVERLY — The Class 1A No. 2-ranked Jays of Le Mars Gehlen showcased a little bit of everything against an overmatched Clay Central-Everly squad Tuesday night, sweeping the Mavs on a night the red and gold amassed just 28 points across all three games.

Gehlen scored in a variety of ways, putting down 33 kills, dropping in 18 aces and blocking 15 Maverick attacks.

CC-E by comparison had six total kills — half of which came from Joie Schmidt, four aces — three of which came from Audrey Ruda and two blocks with Schmidt and Ruda each stuffing one.

The Maverick back line did have plenty of opportunities, coming up with 34 digs, including 10 from Lizzy Hagedorn.

The Jays started in dominating fashion with a 25-6 win in game one.

CC-E cracked into double digits in a 25-10 second set defeat and actually led very early in game three before surrendering the match with a 25-12 game score.

The loss drops the Mavs to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the War Eagle Conference. League play will continue Thursday night for CC-E in Everly against Akron-Westfield. The Westerners are 0-2 on the season with losses to 1A No. 9-ranked Westwood and 2A No. 2-ranked Unity Christian.
