Williams & Company receives Spirit Award
WEST DES MOINES — Williams & Company PC, located in Le Mars, Onawa, Sheldon, Sioux City and Spencer, was presented with the Iowa Society of CPAs Iowa CPAs Month of Service Community Spirit Award during its May 2018 Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting in Altoona. Williams & Company is a tax and accounting firm with offices in northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota.
The award recognizes a team for exemplary dedication across their community through commitment of time and resources during the Iowa CPAs Month of Service event held annually in September.
The initiative is an accounting profession community service event that brings together members of ISCPA and their co-workers to make a positive impact by volunteering in the communities where they live and work.
In 2017, the Williams & Company team helped with the city of Sheldon Labor Day Celebration through vendor setup, sale of wristbands, tear down and cleanup. Team members helped the Read to Succeed Foundation, which buys new books for children from infant through eighth grade and passed out books to more than 400 children in Onawa and Whiting. They read to elementary students in kindergarten through second grade in Le Mars and Hull. They helped Camp Foster YMCA of Okoboji with cleaning out flower beds, splitting and stacking wood, demolition of canvas and screen walls on buildings and general maintenance. Team members participated in Spencer High School’s Tie Project and Professional Etiquette Skill Development project and along with donating a tie and teaching the painstaking task of tying it, taught students about general professional skills such as handshakes, introductions and networking. Staff worked with Dive in Yankton to help move the aquatic facility master plan forward. Staff helped them educate, promote, and market the concept. Williams & Company served as classroom assistants for the Preschool & Kindergarten Zoo Experience from the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. They also taught students in first through fifth grades at West Monona School about sea turtles and sloths.
