Read the Bible

Just to give a few details about my life. My name is David Ellenwood and I am 62 years old. I was born and raised in Spencer. I have gone to church most of my life. The Lord spared my life at the age of 48, by allowing me to have a blood clot near my stomach and liver, that my father and uncle passed away from in their 40s from this blood disorder. A doctor told me that this was the only place in the body to have a blood clot without a straight shot to the heart; it could have led to a heart attack. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011 and have been in remission now for seven years. I lost my wonderful wife, Mary Jo, of 35 years to cancer 8 Ĺ years ago. I have three beautiful children, Mike, Ashley and Rebekah. Rebekah is married to Brennan and they have two handsome sons, Isaac and Jonathan. The Lord has been good to me and my family. I believe in some way or another, we all have been or will be blessed by the Lord.

Two years ago, Governor Branstad wrote a proclamation that we as Iowans have an opportunity to read the Bible aloud in its entirety in all 99 counties at our courthouse. Governor Reynolds has continued to keep it going. I believe this is a great opening from the Lord to further the kingdom of God. I believe by reading the Bible aloud is one way to accomplish this goal. Itís not my purpose to unchurch anyone or receive any material gain. We as Godís people must gather ourselves together in faith, so that we can keep the enemy from our families and community.

We have felt the anointing of God as we have read the Bible. Many people have come thinking that 15 minutes is a long time to read, but when their time is up they say ďAlready?Ē People have come back many times to read frequently. Several people have wept while reading their portion. All ages of people have read the Bible in past years, from youth groups to senior citizens, from day break and through the night hours. What a beautiful opportunity it is to devote oneís time in reading the word of God.

The Bible states in Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The word encourages us to read the Bible aloud and tells us what happens when we do it. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow ... Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. Exodus 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient. Deuteronomy 31:11-12 11 When all Israel is come to appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: Luke 4:16-21 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

My prayer is that you will take time out of your daily schedules and help us read the Bible in its entirety beginning June 30 and ending July 3. The website is www.tinyurl.com/CCBibleMarathon or you can call me at 712-260-6660. May the Lord bless you and your family! Please pray for us and hopefully you can come read with us. I know that the Lord will tremendously bless you, your family and our community as we do our part in furthering the gospel. I am one who can truly say, you cannot out give the Lord. The Bible is not manís word about God, but Godís word to man.
