Errors cost Spencer girls
HULL — Not one of the eight runs conceded by Spencer starting pitcher Bre Small counted as earned Wednesday night against the Western Christian Wolfpack as the Tiger defense committed nine errors en route to an 8-3 defeat.
After a scoreless first, an error followed by a double then another error gave Western a 1-0 lead. Another miscue loaded the bases, setting up an RBI single before another error allowed two members of the Wolpack to touch home for a 4-0 Western lead.
Spencer put runners on second and third in the third inning, but couldn’t bring any home. A leadoff error in the bottom of the frame set up another Wolfpack run for a 5-0 game.
Yet another blunder set up a sacrifice hit for another Western run in the fourth.
Josie Heisinger was able to finally answer back for the Tigers, jacking her fifth homer of the season to left field for a 6-1 game.
However, three more errors in the bottom half saw the lead grow to 8-1 before Spencer scored twice in the seventh with Katelyn Nissen touching home on a passed ball and Ashlyn Nissen scoring Aleece Amendt with a sacrifice fly.
Small finished the game with two strikeouts and a walk, allowing seven hits.
No Tiger had more than one hit during the team’s six hit showing.
The loss drops Spencer to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Lakes Confernece.
They’ll venture back out of league play Thursday night, hosting 1A No. 5-ranked North Union.
