Delaney bringing presidential bid to Spencer
Democratic hopeful making early appearance at The Bear
Maryland 6th District Rep. John Delaney brings his Democratic bid for the United States presidency to Spencer at 10 a.m. Monday at The Bear Coffeehouse. The early appearance is seeking support for the 2020 election.
Delaney will conduct a meet and greet with Clay County Democrats and share his message. His weeklong visit to Iowa marks the 11th time he has campaigned in the state.
Since taking office in 2012, the Columbia University and Georgetown University Law Center graduate has introduced bipartisan legislation on infrastructure, tax reform, social security and impact investing.
After law school, with the help of some great partners, he started his own businesses and by the time he turned 40, had launched two companies that created thousands of jobs. At one time, Delaney was the youngest CEO on the NYSE and in 2004 was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
His second company, CapitalSource was headquartered in Montgomery County, Maryland. For close to 20 years, they helped more than 5,000 small and midsized companies across the United States and employed nearly 2,000 people.
Delaney is the only former CEO of a publicly-traded company in the U.S. House. He was named one of the “World’s Greatest Leaders” by “Fortune” magazine in 2017 and is the founder of the House Artificial Caucus.
He met his wife, April, while both were law students at Georgetown University. She has been the Washington director for Common Sense Media and immediate past chair of the Georgetown University Law Center’s Board of Directors. The couple has four daughters — ages 24, 20, 17 and 10.
