Tigers advance in home debut
Playing an official competition on their home course for the first time all season, Spencerís boys ran away with the 3A sectional meet Thursday, posting a 314 as a team to beat MOC-Floyd Valley and Humboldt which each scored a 329. The Dutch technically took second via fifth score tiebreaker, but all three schools advance to next weekís district tournament due to the Tigers winning on their home course.
Sioux Centerís Freddy Bullock carded a two-over par 74 to win the meet medal. Runner-up honors went to Spirit Lakeís Cameron Dau due to his score of 75. Both players also advance to the district tournament as individuals.
Spencerís Ezra Meyer was the third overall player in the tournament with a 77, and Chase Hough, Michael Storey and Connor Moret quickly filled out the team scorecard behind him with rounds of 78, 79 and 80 respectively.
Colin Slattery and Nick McDermott put up the non-counting scores with rounds of 83 and 87 respectively.
The Tigers will play their district meet on Friday, May 18 at Lake Creek Golf Course in Storm Lake, taking on the top two or three teams from the sectional hosted by Gilbert Thursday. The top two teams next Friday will advance to the state tournament to be held at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge on May 24-25.
The last time Spencer played 18 holes at Lake Creek, the crew carded a 321 to place second behind 2A powerhouse Carroll Kuemperís 308. Hough and Storey had the best days with rounds of 77 and 78 while Meyer and Moret finished out the team score with cards reading 82 and 84.
