Our brother and cousin, Richard “Rich” Marousek, 70, passed peacefully on March 3, 2018, after a one-year battle against lung cancer.
Services will be held at St. Odilia’s Catholic Church, 3495 North Victoria Street, Shoreview, Minnesota, on Tuesday, March 13, at noon with visitation at 11 a.m. A memorial service and burial will be in Spencer at a later date.
Rich was born June 13, 1947, in Sioux City to parents Leslie and Margaret Van Houten Marousek. Rich attended grade school in Sioux City, moved with his family to Fairmont, Minnesota, in 1956, and moved to Spencer with his family in 1958. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary school and Spencer High School graduating in 1966. Rich then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1972 with a degree in electrical engineering.
Rich was a member of the Minnesota and Iowa National Guard and served for six years. In 1973 Rich moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, and began his life long career as an engineer at Sperry/Univac in Roseville, Minnesota. He spent 36 years at Sperry through all the corporate changes and retired in 2009.
Rich was a kind and generous man who shared his electrical and carpentry skills. Whenever anyone needed a helping hand, he was there. He helped build decks, refinish basements, and expand garages. His analytical mind was a great asset! He was loved and will be missed.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Margaret, stepfather, Fern Fitzloff, and grandparents.
