6-on-6 informational meeting planned

Wednesday, March 7, 2018

The search for former six-on-six basketball players continues. The Clay County Heritage Center is looking for women who previously played six-on-six basketball to participate in an exhibition game as part of a Granny Basketball League tournament to be held Saturday, April 28, at the Spencer High School field house.

An informational meeting for interested players will be held Tuesday, March 13, at 5 p.m. at the Clay County Heritage Center at 7 Grand Ave. in Spencer.

The Granny Basketball league is comprised of women over the age of 50 who seek to preserve and promote the history of six-on-six basketball. The league plays by 1920s six-on-six rules, which includes no running or jumping as well as a strict no skin showing policy. In addition to league play, the Granny Basketball teams compete against other organizations or town teams. Over 300 women in eight different states are involved in the league, and around 30 Granny League players plan to attend our tournament on April 28.

We are hoping for a great turnout of local players to showcase the strong history of six-on-six in Clay County. If you have further questions regarding this activity or the exhibit, contact Stephanie Horsley, director for Clay County Heritage Center, at 712-262-3304 or director@parkermuseum.org.
