Boettcher outscores Panthers in Rebel win
STORM LAKE — Sioux Central’s defense locked up Storm Lake St. Mary’s all evening Tuesday, holding the Panthers to just 25 points. Meanwhile, Dani Boettcher poured in 26 for the Rebels to bolster a 54-25 triumph.
“The girls came out a little flat, and we needed to pick up the enthusiasm in the first half,” Sioux Central girls basketball coach Alan Vasher said. “But, after halftime we did a much better job at the defensive end and played with more energy at the offensive end. We are happy to get the win, but we’ll have to play better to advance when the regional tournament starts. I would look for us to play better as we finish out the regular season.”
Sioux Central took a 14-6 lead in the first, but St. Mary’s won the second quarter 11-7 to cut the Rebel advantage to 21-17 at the break.
Things smoothed out in the second half as Sioux Central won the third frame 15-6 and the fourth 18-2 for the comfortable 54-25 win.
Kally Fahnlander joined Boettcher in double figures with 10. Madison Sylvester and Regan Sylvester tied for the team-lead in boards with five each while Boettcher tacked on four steals and two blocks.
The Rebels are now 13-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play. They’ll host Clay Central-Everly for non-conference play Thursday night. Sioux Central’s 2A regional tournament journey begins Saturday, Feb. 10 in Paullina against South O’Brien. The winner will play Okoboji in Milford the following Tuesday.
