Members of the Spencer Fire Department pack up the equipment they needed in order to battle an apartment fire at the Spencer Manor complex Thursday morning. Members of the Spencer Police Department, Spencer Hospital and Clay County Emergency Management were also on scene. “It was a room and contents fire, leaning toward a kitchen fire,” Spencer Fire Chief John Conyn said. “(When) units arrived, (there was) thick heavy black smoke, PD and local tenants were ensuring that all tenants were out at the time. All units made a frontal attack — the fire was knocked down within the first 15 minutes. No injuries reported.” The chief said the apartment where the fire began sustained moderate to heavy fire and smoke damage, making it uninhabitable. Conyn said three adjoining apartments also received smoke damage in the outbreak. Current estimates for damages were upward of $45,000. (Photo by Joseph Hopper)
