Morning fire handled, restaurant reopens short time later

A fire in the kitchen at Pizza Ranch shortly before 10 a.m. Friday was promptly handled and the Grand Avenue restaurant was open in time for lunch.

Spencer Fire and Rescue responded to the 911 call and helped the staff get the facility ready for a lunch rush.

“This was a fryer fire that was out upon Fire Department arrival,” Spencer Fire Chief John Conyn said. “There was smoke and extinguisher powder through out the kitchen area. Fire crews ventilated the building and used thermal imaging camera to ensure no other heat spots in the area.

“Crews also used their four gas monitors for air quality.”

The doors were open in time for lunch and with the exception of the buffet, it was business as usual over the noon hour Friday, according to a member of management at the pizza establishment.

“Restaurant staff have put the restaurant back in service after going through the appropriate steps to ensure kitchen and dinning areas are set for service for one and all,” Conyn said.

The buffet services were ready to go in time for Friday’s dinner crowd.
