Laker women win on the road

COLUMBUS, Neb. — The Iowa Lakes women’s basketball team won on the road Wednesday at Central Community College 69-54. The Lakers had four players in double figures for the second game in a row led by Mia Wassink with 20 points and eight rebounds. Marisela Perez added 14 points, Lemia Ntor-Ue added 12 and Marissa Ruiz added 11.

“It was a good win for the team tonight,” Iowa Lakes women’s basketball coach Ashley Martin said. “I thought the girls shared the ball well and were very unselfish. This team continues to improve every day. I feel like we are in a good place as we enter conference play.”

The Lakers are 5-9 on the season. The ILCC women are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Southwestern Community College in Creston for the beginning of conference play. The Lakers return home on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they’ll host Kirkwood at 1 p.m.
