Late rally lifts Rebel girls
SIOUX RAPIDS — Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s girls gave Sioux Central everything they could handle Monday night, forcing the Rebels to put together a strong 15-6 fourth quarter to pull off a 45-39 win over the Titans.
“The girls really played well and fought through some scoring droughts throughout the game,” Sioux Central girls basketball coach Alan Vasher said. “GT/RA is athletic and quick, and they do a good job of dribble penetration at the offensive end. We did a good job of shutting that down as well as rebounding the basketball at both ends. It was a good win for us, and hopefully we will continue to improve as a team.”
Dani Boettcher led the rebounding efforts, cleaning the glass 12 times in addition to scoring a game-high 19 points. Boettcher also led the team in steals with four.
GT/RA grabbed an early 11-7 lead in the first, but the Rebels came back with a 14-8 second quarter to lead 21-19 at the break.
The Titans again started a half strong in the third, pulling ahead 33-30 going into the fourth. Sioux Central’s strong push in the final stanza resulted in the 45-39 win.
The victory moves the Rebels to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in Twin Lakes Conference play. They’ll be back in league action Friday night in Gowrie against a Southeast Valley squad that has lost all three of its games in the new year.
