Tiger basketball splits on the road
SHELDON — Spencer’s basketball girls got Tuesday’s visit to Sheldon started well while staying undefeated in the new year with a 48-40 win over the Orabs. The boys were unable to carry over the momentum, taking on the one loss 2A No. 9-ranked Orab boys as the Tigers fell 65-41.
The Tiger girls grabbed a 12-7 lead at the end of the first and never let go, leading 32-14 at the half, 42-27 after the third quarter and 48-40 at the final buzzer.
The Tiger boys hung around through the first half, leading 15-11 after one and trailing just 32-24 at the halftime break, but a big third stanza for Sheldon put the Orabs up 52-31 going into the fourth. Sheldon stretched their lead by three more points in the final eight minutes for the 65-41 final. Tyler Johnson was throwing flames for the Orabs, making 7-of-8 attempts from downtown for a game-high 21 points off the Sheldon bench.
The victory for Spencer’s girls moves them to 4-7 on the season while the Tiger boys drop to 6-5. Both teams are scheduled to be back in action in the Field House Thursday night, continuing non-conference play against the Algona Bulldogs.
