Sioux Central girls pull away in 3rd
SIOUX RAPIDS — The winless West Bend-Mallard Wolverines girls gave Sioux Central a bit of a scare early on Friday night, leading the Rebels 16-14 at the break. Sioux Central then piled up 27 points in the third to cruise to a 53-29 victory.
The Rebels struggled from the floor, making just 14-of-56 shot attempts, but 43 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end along with 16 steals provided Sioux Central with plenty of opportunities to score.
The Rebels also did much of their work at the charity stripe, hitting 24-of-37 freebies.
WB-M took a 7-4 lead by the end of the first, and had its highest scoring frame of the night in the second with nine points.
Sioux Central won the third 27-6 for a comfortable 41-22 advantage ahead of a 12-7 edge in the fourth quarter to seal the 53-29 final.
Dani Boettcher posted a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double with three steals. Shera Smith scored 10, boarded five and dished out four assists. Freshman Taylor Krager showed a defensive spark off the bench with four steals.
The Rebels move to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win. They’ll continue league play Monday night at home against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire.
