Spencer’s girls had a tall task on the hardwood Tuesday night, and it wasn’t just defending 6-foot-1 Madison Dreckman. The No. 5-ranked Bulldogs have more firepower than just the big inside, who logged 16 points, nine boards, seven assists, two steals and a block, and they showed it off in a 70-31 win over the Tigers.

The Bulldogs put up five points before Spencer got on the board with a Keeley Petzenhauser free throw with just over two minutes taken off the clock. Le Mars continued to pull away from there, leading 21-10 at the end of the first.

The Tigers scored just four points, all from Petzenhauser, in the second stanza, including a layup just before the buzzer as the teams went to half with a 40-14 scoreboard.

Spencer continued to struggle defending Dreckman and Le Mars guards Jenn Schneider and Sidney Baumgartner, who finished with 18 and 15 points respectively, in the third quarter, falling behind 59-24 going into the fourth.

The ‘Dogs won the final eight minutes 11-7 for the 70-31 final.

Petzenhauser led the Tigers with 15 points. Katie Moser added five with the help of a 3-pointer at the final buzzer.

Spencer slips to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Lakes Conference with the defeat. They’ll continue league play Friday night in Storm Lake. The Tornadoes are 1-4 this season after falling to Emmetsburg 54-46 Tuesday.
