Shooting woes thwart Mavs
EVERLY — One night after handling West Bend-Mallard 57-42 on Monday night, Clay Central-Everly’s girls got right back on their home floor Tuesday against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. After shooting 40 percent from the field Monday, the Mavs mustered just a 17-of-53 (32 percent) performance Tuesday in a 64-43 defeat to the Hawks.
Without Hannah Stimson’s 5-for-7 effort on a 10 point, seven rebound night, the Mavericks would have turned in a 27 percent evening from the field.
HMS took the lead 14-10 by the end of the first before pouring it on with a 23-9 second quarter to lead 37-19 at the break.
The Hawks took the third 19-12, and the Mavs edged the bench mob 12-8 in the fourth for the 64-43 final score.
Audrey Ruda led the way for CC-E with 12 points. EmmaKay McClain had a strong night defensively with five steals.
CC-E drops back to .500 at 2-2 with the loss. They’ll travel to Le Mars Friday night to play Le Mars Gehlen.
The Maverick boys fell to HMS 92-65 Tuesday, losing the third quarter 23-6 after going into the half with a 37-36 lead. CC-E’s boys will also be at Gehlen Friday.
