Rebels fall after slow start
ALTA — The Alta-Aurelia Warriors attacked Sioux Central from the tip Tuesday night, opening up a 17 point lead by halftime of a 55-39 win over the Rebels.
“Our intensity level was not where it needed to be tonight,” Sioux Central boys basketball coach Stephen Tjaden said. “We really struggled handling the ball and dealing with the length and athleticism of Alta-Aurelia.”
The Warriors won the first quarter 18-10 and the second 15-6 for a 33-16 scoreboard at half.
The Rebels went toe-to-toe in the second half, being outscored 14-12 in the third before winning the fourth 11-8.
“I thought we were much more aggressive in the second half and played at the level we should be,” Tjaden said. “Consistency for 32 minutes will be a key for us moving forward.”
Jake Hanson led Sioux Central with 11 points. Prestan Samson came off the bench to add seven points and eight of the team’s 21 boards.
The Rebels struggled from the field, making 16-of-45 field goal attempts, including 2-of-15 from 3-point land.
Sioux Central slips to 1-3 with the loss ahead of a Friday night home game against Manson Northwest Webster.
