EVERLY — After falling to Remsen St. Mary’s in the first match of the night, Clay Central-Everly had a long wait for their second War Eagle Conference match of the evening against No. 15-ranked Harris-Lake Park. The Wolves didn’t seem too exhausted from their four-set win over St. Mary’s, handing the Mavs a sweep defeat.

CC-E made a comeback in game one after trailing 12-4, closing the gap to 15-10, but the Wolves took things from there for a 25-13 win.

Game two was all H-LP as the Mavs tried to stop the bleeding with timeouts while trailing 9-3 and 22-6 but ultimately fell 25-6.

H-LP forced a CC-E stoppage with a 16-7 scoreboard in favor of the Wolves in game three before cruising on to a 25-10 win to cap the evening.

The triangular loss for the Mavs marks the end of the regular season which CC-E closes with a record of 1-18.

They’ll begin regional play this coming Tuesday in Marcus against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen Union. MMCRU won the only meeting between the two teams this season 21-14, 16-21, 15-8 during the Alta-Aurelia tournament.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will advance to play H-LP in Lake Park on Monday, Oct. 23.
