Vote to retain support staff union

Monday, October 9, 2017

I would like to ask all Spencer Schools support staff to join me in voting “Yes” to retain the Spencer Schools Support Staff Union. I am proud to be a part of the Spencer Community Schools education team. The riders on my bus know I will provide them a safe and secure ride to and from school each day. As part of our transportation team, we work together to take care of “our kids” on the bus. Our Spencer Schools support staff union is proud to “drive our negotiation bus” each year to take care of us at the bargaining table.

For years, our Spencer Schools support staff union has been working on our behalf to take care of us at the bargaining table. We are fortunate to currently have great support from the board and school administration. Our contract is one way they can make sure we can continue to serve Spencer’s kids and families. Our support staff union is proud to be a partner in continuing the outstanding educational program in Spencer.

We have been fortunate to have “safety in numbers” by having the support staff union negotiate on our behalf in the past. This year, the union must receive a “Yes” vote from the Spencer Schools support staff to remain as the bargaining unit for us.

Please understand, you DO NOT need to be a member of the union to vote. All support staff (teacher associates, cooks, bus drivers, custodians, library associates, building secretaries) need to vote “Yes” to retain the union. If you do not vote, your vote will be counted as a “NO” vote.

This vote does not make you a member of the union. It only insures we will have someone at the table representing the support staff. Please take the time to vote to retain the support staff union. It’s easy. You can do it by phone or online.

You can vote anytime between Oct. 10 and Oct. 24. Call 855-976-9349 to vote. Have your birthdate and the last four digits of your social security number. Follow the instructions and at the end you will be asked to CONFIRM your vote. Your vote must be confirmed to be counted.

To vote online, go to www.iowaperb.everyonecounts.com. Again, have your personal information, follow the instructions and CONFIRM your vote to make sure it is counted. If you receive a message that you have already voted and have not, contact PERB at 515-281-4414.

Stand up and let your voice be heard as a member of our support staff team. You give your best each day to our future leaders and school supporters. Let the support staff union continue to work on your behalf as your representative at the bargaining table.

Thank you for your support of retaining our Spencer Schools Support Staff Union.
