Vegas violence hits home
Spencer Walmart employee among victims, funds being collected for family
For nearly 48 hours, northwest Iowa waited for news, hoping for the best regarding a missing Sutherland woman who couldn’t be located following a mass shooting Sunday night at Las Vegas’ Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. Tuesday evening word came, and the local community received the answer it didn’t want. The wife and mother of two, Carly Kreibaum, was among the 58 victims who lost their lives when Stephen Paddock, opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd from a 32nd floor suite in the Mandalay Bay, overlooking the concert site.
Facebook messages of compassion and hope flooded the social media outlet after Carly Kreibaum’s disappearance and offers of condolences and support have continued since word of her passing was made public.
Security State Bank of Sutherland and Paullina has set up a pair of funds to benefit the family.
“We have to separate funds — a general fund to help with general expenses for the family and the second fund is a separate fund for scholarships for Kreibaum children — people can donate to either one at either location or by mailing in,” said Darin Johnson, president and CEO of Security State Bank.
Donations to the Chris Kreibaum Family Benefit Account can be sent to: Security State Bank, P.O. Box 68, Sutherland, IA 51058.
Johnson also indicated a public fundraiser is being planned, adding, “there will be more details forthcoming.” He offered a proposed date of Nov. 4 for the event but no other information.
Carly had been the housewares manager at the Spencer Walmart location for the past 12 years.
“We are deeply saddened that one of our associates, Carly Kreibaum, was among those killed in Las Vegas,” shared Khim Aday, with Walmart’s corporate communications department in its Bentonville, Arkansas, headquarters. “Our hearts and prayers are with her family, and with all who have lost family members and loved ones in this attack.”
Jamie Kruse, of Spencer, who has farm property near the Kreibaum residence in Sutherland, said of the family, “They were well liked and awesome people.”
He continued, “All of her co-workers loved working with her and she was a devoted mom and wife.”
Paddock, a 64-year-old, retired accountant is alleged to have killed the nearly 60 persons and injured more than 500 others before reportedly taking his own life in what is regarded as the “deadliest mass gun attack in U.S. history.”
Funeral arrangements for Carly are pending. Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland has been contacted by a third party regarding the service but details have not been discussed.
