Royal water tower in ‘fantastic’ shape
ROYAL — Results from a recent inspection of Royal’s water tower have come back with good marks. During Royal’s City Council meeting Wednesday evening, Royal Public Works Director Sherman Nielsen shared the results with council members and the mayor.
“It tested good, everything’s great,” Nielsen said. “They said it looked fantastic, which it should be because the liner had just been painted in six years ago.”
Nielsen also explained what inspectors were looking for during the tower’s inspection.
“What they look for is little scar marks where the rust is starting to push through the painted liner,” Nielsen said. “If you see one of those, it has to be ground out and re-epoxied — otherwise it’ll end up corroding clear through the tank if it gets rust through the paint — but there was no signs of any of that.”
Royal Mayor Fluff Ihry was pleased with the results.
“I think it’s wonderful, I’m very happy that it was taken care of,” Ihry said.
