Central Academy 2012 graduate and front office manager at Holiday Inn Express NIkki Spaw told graduates on Thursday evening at the Spencer Schools Central Academy graduation to "go out and be somebody that nobody thought you could be."

Spaw started her speech by recounting her early troubles in school.

"Before I came to Central Academy, I struggled to find a way to finish school. I was one to never really like high school. I couldn't stay motivated, I fell behind in credits and I simply wanted to give up," Spaw said. "When I came to Central Academy, Anne and Mark welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I had a another chance. They motivated me, they encouraged me, and most importantly, they believed in me just as I am sure they have done the same for you."

The Central Academy class song was "You're Gonna Miss This," by Trace Adkins. The class colors were metallic purple and old gold and the class flower was a purple daisy. The class quote was from Bob Marley and reads as follows: "You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice."

"If I could give you any advice from over the past few years, it's that I've come to learn that if something doesn't challenge you, then it doesn't change you. Everyone who stands in front of me today has a challenge that they face on a regular basis, whether that challenge is a new challenge or an existing challenge," Spaw said. "It's how you overcome that challenge that changes who you are as a person and makes you stronger."

Spaw added, "Kindness goes a long way. I mean, sure you can succeed without kindness, but wouldn’t you like to be successful and kind? Smile at people who don't smile at you. Appreciate those who may feel unappreciated. Show respect to people who don' t deserve it. Be strong, not rude. Be nice, not weak. Be humble but not timid. Be proud, but not arrogant. I feel like kindness is a very underrated trait, people forget its importance."

The graduation ceremony featured comments from teachers and administrators as well as a slideshow presentation of pictures of the graduates. Many of the graduates took the opportunity to thank their family, teachers and administrators for all of their help.
