A collision shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Seventh Avenue Southwest and U.S. Highway 71 in south Spencer sent both drivers involved to Spencer Hospital with possible injuries.

Sherry Maurer, 56, of Sutherland, was stopped, facing northbound, in a 2012 GMC Yukon on Seventh Avenue Southwest, as a 2005 Buick Terraza, driven by Edward Devereaux, 79, of Spencer, traveling east on U.S. Highway 71 approached the intersection.

Maurer reportedly told the Spencer Police Department investigator that she had stopped, looked twice both ways, but did not see the Terraza. Devereaux told police he was driving when suddenly a white vehicle was in front of him and he could not stop before the two vehicles collided.

Spencer Fire Department personnel help clean debris from the intersection of Seventh Avenue Southwest and U.S. Highway 71 after a two-car collision blocked the busy intersection for a brief period of time Tuesday afternoon.

The Yukon sustained approximately $5,000 in damage while the Terraza received approximately $7,000 in damage.

Maurer was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
