The end of the Spencer High School renovation project is in sight as the concourse and main offices opened to the staff and students at the start of January classes. The final stage in the project is the auditorium, which is estimated to be complete by the end of the month.

The concourse is decorated with the school colors and filled with tables, chairs and couches for students. The entire section has natural lighting provided by a wall of windows at either side of the concourse.

"We wanted to create a campus feel for our students where they could do school work or converse with classmates," Terry Hemann, Spencer School District superintendent, said.

Students have already begun to make use of the new area, studying after classes before going on to other projects.

"We have students who are at the high school early before school and students who are at the school well after regular dismissal time for practices, rehearsals or to meet with a teacher," Hemann said.

Hemann also said the auditorium is nearing completion and he hopes it will be finished by the end of January. However, he does warn that the anticipated finish date is only an estimate.
