Wassink leads Lakers over Luther JV
ESTHERVILLE — Iowa Lakes Community College center Mia Wassink led the Lakers with a double-double Thursday night, scoring 17 points and grabbing 18 rebounds as ILCC defeated Luther's JV 84-57.
“I was really pleased with our post presence tonight,” Iowa Lakes women's basketball coach Ashley Martin said.
Fellow post players Lemia Ntor-Ue and Jackie Petrich also made big contributions. Petrich scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds; Ntor-Ue scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Point guard Lauryn Smith contributed seven assists along with 14 points.
“As we have progressed through the non-conference season, we have been trying to find our identity as a team. Tonight I thought we got one step closer. Along with our strong post play, I am pleased with how the guards handled the pressure of Luther’s defense. They pressed us for 40 minutes, and I thought our guards showed great composure and toughness,” Martin said.
The Lakers are 6-5 on the season and 0-0 in conference play. The Lakers return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when they host Marshalltown Community College in Laker Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
