Monday, April 4, 2016
Getting a jump on Mayor's Day, Mayor Reynold Peterson decided to participate in his annual community service project a day early. On Monday, Peterson joined RSVP Volunteer Driver Russ Haaland and Sunset Apartment volunteers to assemble Home Delivered Meals for Elderbridge. Peterson helped Alma Birchard get spinach into a meal box, then added a cup of fruit, and once all of the meals were prepared, the mayor assisted in the delivery of the meals to homes around Spencer.

Peterson signs proclamation declaring Mayor's Day in Spencer

Before departing to deliver the meals, the mayor signed a proclamation, surrounded by Home Delivered Meals volunteers Birchard, Ken Wright, Haaland and Pat Main, declaring Mayor's Day in Spencer. On April 5, county officials and mayors across the country thank those who serve and recognize the impact on Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service. By unleashing the power of citizens, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs have a positive and lasting impact, making our communities better places to live. The initiative is being led by the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties, Cities of Service, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.(Photos by Randy M.
