Tigers come up short against Spirit Lake
Spencer's girls finished Monday night's game at home against Spirit Lake with one more hit than the Indians, 7-6, but the Tigers couldn't bring enough runners around, falling to the No. 6-ranked team in 3A 5-2.
Karis Rhode put the Tigers on the board first, singling Madi Rost home in the bottom of the first.
Spirit Lake evened the score in the third with a sacrifice bunt, and they took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a solo shot to left field.
A two-RBI single by the Indians in the fifth made it a 4-1 advantage. Spencer got one back in the sixth on a Mackenzie Rosendahl RBI double, but the Tigers couldn't keep the inning alive. Spirit Lake tacked on a final run in the seventh to make it 5-2.
Singles by Hailey Huckfelt and Emily Weeks in the seventh gave Spencer a little bit of life, but no runs were scored, dropping the Tigers to 9-8 on the year.
Rost pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits, five runs (three earned) and five walks. She struck out five on a night that saw her hurl 113 pitches.
The Tigers will look to get back in the win column Wednesday night in Estherville.
